“While hitting a plateau on my weight loss and a wedding only 2 months away, I called Wendy in desperation. When she recommended the Johnny Bowden Diet Boot Camp with a workbook and CD, my brain said, ‘This is too much, I don’t do diets’ while I politely accepted the challenge.

When I first started reading the book I was very impressed with how he explains in detail what certain foods actually do to your body to keep weight on, and not off. I finally understood why I was not losing weight after cutting hundreds of calories out of my diet.

Journaling was helpful too. I discovered that I had a somewhat abusive relationship with food. I love how the book lets you customize your own plan by picking from different food lists and avoiding others. It doesn’t feel like a diet. I have to admit that cutting out sugar was the hardest for me (and for others I hear). I didn’t realize how much sugar most foods have.

After the second week of the diet, I started to feel very healthy and found myself thinking that I don’t even want to eat certain foods because of the way they made me feel. The diet accompanied with a customized workout from Wendy made inches fall off of my body (9.75!!). I even had a friend tell me I looked like I did in high school.

It has been about 3 months and I still eat the way the workbook suggests with a few modifications here and there. The best thing is that when you do slip up on this diet, you don’t gain any weight back because you haven’t really restricted any one type of food from your diet. I didn’t even gain a pound on my 2 week Honeymoon because I avoided the ‘bad choices food’ list.

If you are one of those who ‘don’t do diets’ like I am, you have to give this one a try. You will feel better than you imagined without having to starve yourself. Thank you Wendy!!”

“I started going to see Wendy for personal training for weight loss when I was probably a Sophomore in high school. Wendy was amazing, with just exercising an intense 50 minutes with her 3 times per week, I was able to lose 20+ inches in 3 months and looked amazing! I was extremely pleased and happy with my results, and the training I had been given.

However, sometimes we fail and “fall off the wagon”. A series of depressing events happened in my life and I slowly gained 70+ pounds over the course of 3 or so years. I hated looking in the mirror, I most of all hated myself for letting my weight get so out of control. I think I hit rock bottom and decided I was unhealthy, and I just wanted to feel and look like a 20-something year old should! I made mini-goals, to lose just 10 pounds at a time, even though in the big picture I knew I had to lose over 80 pounds to really reach my long term goal.

At this point, I lived 3 hours away from Wendy, but I had remembered all the tools and things she had taught me to do to drop fat, and build lean sculpted muscles. I began to cut out simple things in my diet, and exercise like I had been taught with Wendy a few days a week and lo and behold weight started dropping off. This weight loss journey has taken me at least a year, but it’s weight that has steadily came off. No crash dieting, it’s been a lifestyle change. I have learned that exercising HAS to be a lifestyle. I know in the beginning it’s hard, but I actually look forward to working out every day. Wendy told me that would happen, and it finally did.

When I have gone to gyms and taken classes, I’ve always had people say what excellent form I have and I always say it’s thanks to Wendy. If it weren’t for my training with Wendy, I wouldn’t have known the best way FOR ME and MY body to lose the weight, and to get in shape. She taught me proper form so I wouldn’t hurt myself on gym equipment, how much weight I should use, and she also gave me other options for cardio besides running because I expressed how I much I disliked running.

Wendy was more than accommodating to make a program tailored to what I enjoyed doing, and really was an excellent motivator. She gave me the tools I needed to maintain a healthy lifestyle for a lifetime, and I think everyone deserves to have this! “Whew! I just got back from another ‘workout with Wendy’. Sound like a good name for a TV show? I hope not, because – if our workouts were on TV, fitness-instructor-nutrition-expert-stylist would have to quit her day job and I’d lose my very up-close-and-personal trainer.

Those of us who have been around a while (I mean the ones who started out with sweater leggings and own a library of Jane Fonda exercise videos) have seen it all. We’ve groaned, perspired, ached and whispered four-letter words through literally years of fitness routines that came into and out of style. We’ve joined gyms and had ‘free’ sessions with the trainers there, only to find them repetitive, too general and sometimes even dangerous because, more often than not, they (1) don’t understand women’s and men’s physiology are not created equal (2) have us doing things that cause too much stress on certain parts of our bodies, forgetting that the core is where it all happens (3) don’t change up the routine each time they see us because they can’t take the time to personalize workouts for 50 different people. And we’ve wandered around with exercise ‘routine cards’ in our hands, feeling like idiots as seasoned fitness veterans wait for us to vacate the equipment.

Fast forward to Fit 4 Success Lifestyle Studio workouts and I can honestly say that I look forward to each and every session I have with Wendy.

There is nothing ‘girly-girl’ about our sessions whatsoever. We use exercise bands, steps, free weights, machines, a Bosu, an elliptical, a stair-climber, exercise balls and medicine balls, kettle bells – and sometimes all in ONE workout. Honestly, I walk in there never knowing what to expect next. Wendy trains for balance , strength, fat loss and cardio health all at once and can explain the science behind every little movement I make as we go along – and believe me I ask a LOT of questions.

While we work out we speak of nutrition, sleep issues, clothing that is suited to my body type (she deals in gorgeous private label clothing too) and just about everything else we can think of as deer graze on the idyllic hillsides outside her studio windows — a dedicated floor of her elegant El Dorado Hills home designed specifically for fitness and fashion-related enterprises. Wendy’s ex figure skater body, pixie haircut and sparkling blue eyes package a mind that is constantly clicking. She repeatedly corrects form, counts backward to tell me how many more reps I have to do, and even does some exercises along with me. And like a laborer who just sat down in a hot tub to soothe his aching bones and muscles, she lets out a musical “Aaahhhhhhh,” as if she can feel my relief when I complete a brutal movement or routine.

After having been ‘Wendying” for nearly eight months, I get compliments nearly every day from people I run into or from people I’ve known forever. “What’s different?” they ask. And although my clothes fit better, my skin is flush with the good things that come from regular exercise and I feel great about the commitment I continue to keep with myself, golden moments happen when people say, ‘You look great.” And instead of modestly minimizing their compliment, the way a lot of women do, I merely say, “Thank you. I do work out.”
